Nextracker is chosen by Amara Raja Power Systems to provide solar trackers for NTPC’s 306 MWp Nokh Power Plant.

The market leader in solar systems was picked due to its track record in India and its established bifacial design, which boosts energy gain on utility-scale solar power plants.

The Nokh Solar Project will soon be one of India’s largest solar parks, is being developed by NTPC Limited. Today, Nextracker, the leading global provider of intelligent solar tracker and software solutions, announced the signing of a master supply agreement (MSA) with Amara Raja Power Systems Limited to provide its award-winning solar trackers for the project.

This 1,850 acre (3,500 contiguous football fields) ground-mounted utility-scale power plant project, with a 306 megawatt peak (MWp) capacity, is being carried out by Amara Raja in the Indian state of Rajasthan.

Due to declining module prices and improved tracker design efficiencies, the news continues the upward trend for the adoption of solar trackers combined with bifacial module technology in India.

In this landmark bifacial and solar tracker white paper, independent test laboratories certify Nextracker’s optimised bifacial tracker design’s ability to boost energy yield.

According to Dwarakanadha Reddy, Business Head of Projects Division, Amara Raja Power Systems, “We are delighted to collaborate with Nextracker, the global leader in solar tracker technology, on the landmark Nokh solar project in line with the government’s vision to bring more renewables into the energy mix.” “We are pleased to provide NTPC with this cutting-edge technology, and Nextracker is the ideal local partner to support us in achieving lower levelized cost of energy (LCOE) during the lifetime of the plant,” says the company.

“We are grateful for this opportunity to collaborate with Amara Raja and NTPC Limited, India’s largest power public sector utility,” said Dan Shugar, Nextracker’s founder and CEO. Nextracker is committed to delivering high performing systems to our customers and supporting India’s goal of ensuring that 50% of the country’s energy requirement comes from renewable resources, with a gigawatt of our high performing solar tracker systems operating on 24 projects across India and close to 200 local staff to support design and engineering, local content and manufacturing, sales and aftermarket services.”

NTPC has increased its renewable energy investments in recent years, with the goal of reaching more than 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032, accounting for 50% of its total generation capacity.

The project is expected to be operational by October 2023, with the first shipments arriving in Q1 of 2023. Rajasthan is the Indian state with the most installed renewable energy capacity (19.5 GW), having recently met its 14 GW target for 2022 in December 2021.
